Haley is a Licensed Social Worker in Colorado with a specialization in human-animal interactions. She found her way to positive reinforcement training while working with her dog Corbin to become a therapy dog through Freedom Service Dogs in Englewood, CO. She then went on to deepen her understanding of animal learning and behavior by completing her dog trainer certification through Karen Pryor Academy.
Haley’s previous training experience includes leading group classes as well as consulting with client-dog teams to help them build desired skills and alleviate behavioral stresses. Haley also currently utilizes her social work background to support human clients who care for behaviorally or medically challenging pets as well as those experiencing grief from the loss of a pet.
With an undergraduate background in Philosophy, Haley is especially passionate about the complex ethics related to animal status and welfare, as well as the intersections of social justice and dog training methodologies. She is the author of the Substack: How You Train Your Dog Matters.
Haley lives in Longmont with her spouse and daughter, their adopted livestock guardian dog Remi, and their two HSBV-alumni kitties, Rosie and Parsley. When not working or caring for kids and animals, Haley loves hiking alongside streams, putzing around her garden, playing her djembe drum and writing at coffee shops.
